In today’s video your going to learn how to remove excess skin around the cuticle area and toenail cleaning on a client who can’t reach her toes because of her lymphedema.

Before I start every pedicure I disinfect my hands by washing them with soap and water and using germ killer, I apply callus remover to the bottom of the foot when it comes out of the water the first time and wraps the foot comfortably in a towel. I apply the cuticle remover then trim the nails with nippers.

While I work on the nails, the callus remover enough time to penetrate into the excess skin on the bottom of the foot so it is ready to be filed off by the time I am finished working on the toe nails.

When people can’t tend to their feet on a regular basis because they can’t reach them they are going to have more excess skin than someone else, so be prepared.

I understand there are people watching that wouldn’t be able to touch feet. I have even had nail techs who give pedicures, tell me they just can’t touch a foot without gloves. And that is ok. However, touching someone's foot is exactly the same as touching any other part of the body, and I mean ANY, haha. at least you should be washing your hands every time you use the restroom! Haha

But please, don’t try to minimize the work I perform, the results I achieve, or the education I provide because I don’t have on gloves. I have been giving pedicures for 25 years. I follow all patron protection and disease control protocols, we have a state board of cosmetology that governs this industry. This is not a medical field and the risk of ever drawing blood is minimal, but there is a protocol in place, to protect me from bloodborne pathogens if blood is ever drawn. We also have a system on the human body called the integumentary system, it is the largest organ in the body. It consists of hair, nails and skin that protects our body from harmful external elements. And after years and years of research, this system has proven that it is safe to touch a person even if they have hepatitis or aids as long as they and you do not have an open cut or wound and don’t come into contact with the other person where the exchange of fluids can take place!

it has also been proven that hand washing and good old germ killer can kill 99.8% of harmful bacteria and germs. But bacteria also need the perfect environment to grow. That is why even if you touch something that has bacteria on it and wash your hands the chances of it ever causing a problem are pretty much zero!
