I want to ask people who grew up in other cultures if they had similar weird childhood stuff as we did in Japan.

In ancient Japan, there was a belief system called Kotodama, which is basically the belief that words carry magical powers and whatever you say will manifest. I don’t know if that’s the reason, or if Japanese kids now still do it, but whenever someone touched a gum on the ground or dog poop or anything that’s supposed to be gross, the other kids shouted out, “Barrier!” and that was supposed to protect you from all forms of filth.

Taking that further, during tag, when the kid who is It gets close to another kid who’s running away, and if the kid feels he can’t get away, he said, “10-minute barrier!” And the It’s like, “Damn it…! Where are the other ones?” It worked ????!
