Meet Io, the most volcanic place in our solar system! Orbiting Jupiter, Io has over 400 active volcanoes, some spewing lava fountains up to 500km high! Its surface is painted in bright yellows, reds, and whites, thanks to sulphur and silicate materials.

Pushed and pulled by Jupiter’s immense gravity and its fellow moons, Io’s interior stays hot, driving its volcanic activity.

Io is only slightly larger than our Moon.
