It’s been ages since the last video and I wanted to give you a small glimpse into what I’ve currently been working on.

This tree and many more like it will form part of the scenery on a large diorama I’m working on depicting the Victorian country side in Australia, the scene as a whole will incorporate a train line passing through the countryside with an open field, a river and many other small man made details to add depth and interest.

I’m hoping to have the new tutorial video finished soon, it’s the largest diorama I’ve built so far and should look quite good with a train running through the scene.

The tree in the video is made using Salt Bush, this is a small shrub typically found in arid areas in Australia and grows in close proximity to large salt lakes. The techniques can easily be applied to many other types of bushes and shrubs to achieve the same effect, a commonly used bush is Sagebrush which has a fantastic bark texture great for scale modelling.

Here is a tutorial I filmed a while ago using similar techniques shown in the above video:

The main difference is that after adding the extra branches I begin to add sea foam also known as ‘Super Tree’ in the US and also commonly called Sea Moss. The video above starts after the extra branches had been added and you see me start to add the sea foam.

For more information you can also check out my most recent blog where I describe the methods and techniques for building this awesome tree.
