Want to add another dimension in your street scene paintings? Why not include a few cyclists (as well as some people of course)? It will add interest and motion to the painting... The scene is Bruges in Belgium and painted with watercolor in a loose style.

In this demo I will be covering...

1) Choice of Subject. What makes a good watercolor subject. How to simplify the scene.

2) Materials I use such as the paper. I will also cover the paints I use and the palette, plus how I hold the different brushes for different techniques.

3) Doing the outline sketch as the first step. How to draw bicycles and at a slight angle. Thinking about the proportions of the bicycle - wheel size and placing the cyclist. The shape of the cyclist. Also I cover the stepped gable ends of the buildings typically found in Bruges and the area.

4) Doing the sky and the first wash of the background and then the foreground.

5) Shadows and details of the figures and cyclists. Building details like windows and just painting them in a loose style.

6) Watch out for the highlighting tips at the end - just a little white paint on the rims of wheels and figures!
