In the classic squatting version of this pose, you do need flexibility in the feet and ankles to enable you to work in or towards the pose. If you are stiff or have knee or back problems, then ask your Iyengar Yoga teacher to help you get the action in this pose. So this is not a tutorial suitable for complete beginners or those who are still quite stiff. If you look on our channel's playlists, we have plenty of videos if you want other videos of iyengar yoga for beginners, or yoga for a stiffer body.
Twists are very good for the health of the digestive system, so if you suffer from IBS or other gut problems, or if you are concerned about weight loss or appetite, you should be including twists in your yoga practice.
